The new energy certificate is coming

If your current energy certificate is from 2011 or older, you will need a new energy certificate when you sell or re-let your property. With the revision of the Building Energy Act, the requirements for the energy certificate have changed.

The most important facts about the new energy certificate:

  • New basis: Revised Building Energy Act (GEG) instead of the EnEV (Energy Saving Ordinance)
  • Validity: still 10 years
  • Contains more information than before, e.g. calculations and information on the CO2 emissions of a building as well as detailed information on the energy quality, also in the consumption-oriented energy certificate
  • Now also obligatory for brokers in real estate brokerage
