About Us

Energy efficiency is a key component on the path to a climate-neutral building stock by 2045. With over 70 years of experience, Techem is a leading energy service provider in the real estate industry and a reliable partner that supports its customers in meeting the challenges of the energy transition.

Our history at a glance

The beginnings

Friedrich Ott founded Techem in 1952. It was one of the first companies to help distribute heating costs fairly according to consumption by recording individual heat consumption in apartments. At that time, the order of the day was the simple, analog installation and reading of evaporator tubes on radiators.

The 1980s

A key milestone: In 1983, Techem launched electronic heat cost allocators on the market. The advantage? These devices work more accurately than analog heat cost allocators and can therefore reduce measurement errors to a minimum.

The 1990s

Techem has also been offering heat contracting since 1992 and introduced a radio system for consumption recording four years later.

The 2000s

Techem ushered in a new era in 2005 with the establishment of remote reading via mobile communications. In 2007, we expanded our product portfolio to include wireless smoke detectors, and in 2009 we introduced the Techem Smart System. It centrally and automatically records and transmits the consumption values of the individual recording devices.

The 2010s

In 2010, we certified our energy management system in accordance with DIN EN 16001 as part of heat contracting. This was followed by the introduction of remote inspection of smoke detectors in 2011. A year later, Techem expanded its service portfolio to include legionella testing in cooperation with the SGS Institut Fresenius. In 2012, the Techem heating service was added and supplemented in 2014 by the Techem heating service with direct current. In 2018, we introduced hydraulic balancing and drinking water treatment, followed by remote monitoring of heating systems with the Techem Smart Monitor in 2019.

The 2020s

At the beginning of 2021, Techem entered the smart metering business as a competitive metering point operator. Using intelligent metering systems, we can now offer bundled consumption recording for submetering, electricity, and gas.
