Expansion of the charging infrastructure for e-mobility - New electric charging stations at 300 federal properties
- Significant contribution to the mobility transition with around 1,900 new charging points
- New infrastructure enables a CO₂-neutral range of 140,000 kilometers in total
- Techem as a full-service provider from installation to billing of the systems
Bonn/Eschborn, 22. Mai 2025. The Federal Agency for Real Estate (BImA) is continuing to push ahead with the expansion of the e-charging infrastructure for federal properties. With the installation of around 1,900 new charging points on almost 300 properties, the BImA is making a significant contribution to the federal administration's mobility transition.
“As the federal government's central real estate company, the BImA is playing a key role in the federal administration's journey toward climate neutrality. The expansion of the e-charging infrastructure is an essential step in actively driving forward the mobility transition,” explains Prof. Dr. Alexander von Erdély, spokesperson for the BImA's executive board.
The expansion is part of BImA's climate program, which sets out concrete measures to reduce CO₂ emissions so that the federal administration becomes climate-neutral by 2030. The expansion will take place in three phases, with the first tranche of around 1,900 charging points almost complete.
Demand-oriented expansion
The new infrastructure offers a total output of 20,548 kW and enables a total range of 140,000 km to be charged in a CO₂-neutral manner. “This enables us to offer our customers, employees and guests throughout Germany the opportunity to charge their work, fleet and private vehicles in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly manner,” says Brigitte Bourscheidt, Head of Facility Management at BImA.
In Meckenheim and Erfurt, the largest properties in the first phase, 27 charging stations have been installed, all of which supply 100% green electricity. In addition to standard charging stations and wall boxes, fast charging stations with higher power outputs are also to be installed in the future.
Full-service provider ensures smooth operation
The charging infrastructure was installed by energy service provider Techem as a full-service provider. Techem is responsible for technical operation and monitoring, carries out regular maintenance, and provides customer service.
“With our end-to-end charging infrastructure solutions, we are helping to achieve significant emissions reductions and thus promoting the expansion of a sustainable infrastructure for electric mobility in Germany. This means that, as a company, we are not only actively driving the energy transition in buildings, but also playing an integral role in the transport transition,” explains Techem CEO Matthias Hartmann.
“The common goal of both partners is to provide attractive charging solutions with 100% green electricity, thereby enabling the transition to climate-friendly mobility. Techem is making a key contribution with its full-service operation, which ranges from installing the charging equipment to taking over technical operations and providing fully digital, individual charging billing,” adds Stefan Scherber, Head of E-Mobility at Techem. Via the user portal provided, property users can view the charging processes of their service and employee vehicles, assign RFID cards to authorized persons, and take advantage of many other digital services.
Even after completion of the first phase, the BImA is continuing with its expansion plan. Under a further framework agreement with E.ON, an additional 7,000 charging points are to be installed on BImA properties by 2027. The long-term goal is to equip all properties with charging facilities.

About the BImA
The Federal Agency for Real Estate (BImA) is the central real estate company of the federal government. It is part of the Federal Ministry of Finance and operates in accordance with modern standards in the real estate industry. Its headquarters are in Bonn. Its main tasks are the uniform management of federal real estate, real estate administration and sales, and forestry and nature conservation management of land properties. The BImA also has a large portfolio of affordable housing, which it primarily makes available to federal employees as part of the housing assistance program. The federal government's housing initiative supports the Federal Agency by now also building its own properties.
The BImA covers the land and space requirements of the federal ministries through land and buildings in its own portfolio, through new construction, purchase, or leasing. The properties are then made available to users on the basis of rental agreements. With around 5,100 service properties, the BImA manages almost all of the federal government's service properties, including, for example, the administrative buildings of the ministries and higher federal authorities as well as the Bundeswehr properties in Germany.
