Confirmation of strong sustainability performance: Techem receives “AA” ESG rating from MSCI

  • MSCI's “AA” ESG rating positions Techem as a ‘leader’
  • Techem exceeds the industry average in four key ESG categories: “Carbon Emissions,” “Human Capital Development,” “Privacy & Data Security,” and “Corporate Behavior”
  • With new owners, Techem has strategic investors who actively support sustainability goals

Eschborn, November 12, 2025. Techem, one of the leading energy service providers in the real estate industry, has been awarded an “AA” rating by MSCI, an internationally renowned ESG rating company. This makes the Eschborn-based energy service provider one of the world's leading companies in the field of environmental, social, and responsible corporate governance. Within the “Professional Services” sector, Techem has positioned itself as an ESG leader, exceeding the industry average in four key categories: “Carbon Emissions,” “Human Capital Development,” “Privacy & Data Security,” and “Corporate Behavior.”

ESG rating as a relevant economic indicator

“The ‘AA’ ESG rating (score: 8.5) from MSCI confirms our strategic course: sustainability is not a side issue for Techem, but an integral part of our business model,” explains Matthias Hartmann, CEO of Techem. "We are sending a clear signal with targeted investments in future technologies and our active role in the smart meter rollout. We see sustainability as a corporate responsibility and a competitive advantage at the same time. For capital markets, sustainability strategies are increasingly becoming the benchmark for future viability, resilience, and forward-looking risk management. This makes the ESG rating a relevant economic indicator for the prospects of long-term success and a clear incentive for companies to act responsibly, future-oriented, and yet economically," Matthias Hartmann continues.

MSCI's ESG rating assesses companies worldwide in terms of their ability to identify and effectively manage ESG risks. The scale ranges from CCC (weak sustainability performance) to AAA (leading sustainability performance from a score of 8.571). Companies with a high rating are considered “leaders” because they manage sustainability risks particularly effectively and strategically utilise sustainability opportunities. The rating is based on an industry-specific comparison: Techem was assigned to the “professional services” industry.

Sustainability at Techem: More than just “E” for Environment

Techem is committed to a holistic sustainability strategy that equally incorporates environmental, social, and responsible corporate governance issues. In the area of the environment, the company has set itself the goal of reducing company-related emissions by 90% by 2045 and making products increasingly recyclable. In the area of social responsibility, Techem specifically promotes work-life balance, as confirmed by the successful renewal of its “berufundfamilie” audit certificate. Diversity and equal opportunities are promoted in a targeted manner through the company-wide diversity roadmap. In the area of governance, Techem is committed to transparent and responsible corporate management.

At Techem, sustainability is firmly anchored in the company as a cross-divisional issue, and its implementation is managed by a company-wide Sustainability Council. This committee monitors progress in implementing sustainability goals, promotes interdisciplinary exchange, and ensures that ESG aspects are systematically integrated into all business processes. In this way, Techem creates the structural conditions necessary to comply with regulations, identify risks at an early stage, and secure sustainable value creation in the long term.

Strong partners for sustainable development

"Regulatory requirements for companies are increasing, and we are addressing this responsibility with a clear sustainability strategy that encompasses environmental, social, and corporate governance issues in a balanced manner. For Techem, the annual ESG rating is a key indicator of our sustainability performance and an important signal to capital markets, banks, and investors. Sustainability has long been a decisive factor in company valuation: those who consistently take ESG criteria into account strengthen their resilience, meet regulatory requirements, and improve their attractiveness to capital markets," says Dr.-Ing. Carsten Sürig, CFO of Techem. With Partners Group, GIC, TPG Rise Climate, and Mubadala, Techem has gained strong new partners who share the company's ambitions and support it with strategic expertise and investment power to drive sustainable innovation and consistently implement existing ESG goals. Together, they aim to further expand and advance Techem's position as a leading digital provider of energy services for the digitalization and decarbonization of the building sector in Europe.
