As a leading property services provider, Techem helps property owners, housing companies, and residents to use energy more efficiently, reduce emissions, and gradually decarbonize buildings. With digital infrastructure, smart energy solutions, and data-driven services, we lay the foundation for efficient buildings and the resource-efficient use of heat, water, and energy.

Environmental responsibility at Techem 

In the environmental sector, Techem focuses on reducing CO₂e emissions and increasing energy efficiency. Our digital solutions for buildings provide transparency into energy consumption, optimize heating systems, and support the transition to renewable energy. In addition, we implement measures to conserve resources and reduce emissions in our own operations. As part of the mobility transition, we’re also making an important contribution through our EV charging services. We offer our customers a 360-degree package ranging from planning and installation to power supply. At the same time, we are reducing emissions from our own operations and throughout our value chain.

Measures and targets

The transformation of the building sector is a key driver of climate action. Techem is driving the digitalization of the building stock to make energy consumption more transparent and systematically tap into efficiency potential. A key milestone was reached in fiscal year 2025: More than 85% of the meters are already wireless-enabled. The digital infrastructure forms the foundation for automated consumption data, data-driven energy optimization, and the decarbonization of buildings.

The decarbonization roadmap calls for reducing Group-wide emissions across all scopes by at least 90% compared to 2020. As early as fiscal year 2025, the CO₂e footprint was reduced by approximately 27% compared to the base year. In addition, Techem emphasizes energy management in accordance with ISO 50001, energy audits, and the expansion of renewable energy in its own operations.

Techem is working to use resources efficiently throughout the entire product life cycle. This includes extending the service life of equipment, reuse, recycling, and life cycle analyses. In fiscal year 2025, a reuse center was established in collaboration with an external partner. There, used equipment is inspected for reusability and—if suitable—put back into service. This saves resources, reduces waste, and extends the useful life of products.

Techem Research Institute on Sustainability (TRIOS)

The Techem Research Institute on Sustainability (TRIOS) is responsible for Techem’s research, analysis, and implementation capabilities in the areas of consumption transparency, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, and CO₂e reduction. To advance climate and environmental protection consistently throughout the company and leverage synergies for the development of innovative market solutions, TRIOS calculates the corporate CO₂e footprint, develops and monitors the decarbonization plan, and contributes to publications and research aimed at improving energy efficiency and decarbonizing the building stock.

Techem Atlas for Energy, Heat & Water

A central pillar of TRIOS' scientific contributions is the Atlas for Energy, Heat & Water (formerly the Consumption Characteristics Study), which we publish annually. The study is based on adjusted data on energy and water consumption and the associated costs of around 1.2 million apartments in Germany in more than 110,000 residential buildings.
