Environment

Below you will find an overview of our environmental goals and measures.

Environmental responsibility at Techem

Techem's environmental focus is on reducing CO₂e emissions and improving energy efficiency. Our digital solutions for buildings create consumption transparency, optimize heating systems, and support the transition to renewable energies. We also implement targeted measures to conserve resources and reduce emissions across our own operations. Through our EV charging services we additionally contribute to the mobility transition – offering customers a fully integrated 360-degree solution that includes planning, installation, and power supply. Our long-term ambition is to achieve climate neutrality by 2045 and make a meaningful contribution to decarbonization along our value chain.

The key driver of this transformation is the Techem Research Institute on Sustainability (TRIOS), which publishes research and data analyses on  on improving energy efficiency and decarbonizing of the building stock. With continuous data collection throughout the year, TRIOS produces the  the Techem Atlas for Energy, Heat, and Water, as well as our annual heating cost forecast. In doing so, we are helping to build the analytical foundation for a sustainable transformation of the real estate industry.

Our goals and achievements

  • As part of its decarbonization roadmap, Techem aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2045 by reducing at least 90% of emissions across all scopes and offsetting only the remaining emissions. In the 2025 financial year, we have already achieved a reduction of around 27% compared to the base year 2020.

  • Our goal is to equip over 5,000 charging points for private charging infrastructure with green electricity by the end of 2027. By the end of the 2025 financial year, Techem had already installed 2,013 charging points.

  • We have already achieved our goal of equipping 85 % of our meters in properties with wireless capability by the end of 2025.

Techem Atlas for Energy, Heat & Water

A central pillar of TRIOS' scientific contributions is the Atlas for Energy, Heat & Water (formerly the Consumption Characteristics Study), which we publish annually. The study is based on adjusted data on energy and water consumption and the associated costs of around 1.2 million apartments in Germany in more than 110,000 residential buildings.
