Press Releases - 27.08.2026

  • CEO Matthias Hartmann and CFO Dr.-Ing. Sürig to step down from the Management Board.
  • Experienced team to lead Techem on an interim basis.
  • The company plans to expand its offering of comprehensive AI-based digital services in the areas of energy and decarbonization.

Eschborn, August 27, 2026. The Supervisory Board of Techem GmbH has reached a mutual agreement with Matthias Hartmann, 60, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board, and Dr.-Ing. Carsten Sürig, 60, Chief Financial Officer, on a change in the company’s leadership, thereby accelerating Techem’s management transition. Mr. Hartmann had already announced that he did not intend to extend his contract beyond spring 2027. Both will step down from the Management Board ahead of schedule with effect from August 27, 2026.

Until both positions are filled with permanent successors, Techem will be led on an interim basis by a dual leadership team: Ulrich Schiller, 50, the CEO of Techem Deutschland, and Michael Nilles, 53, a member of the Advisory Board, will lead the group as Co-CEOs. Their experience is an excellent fit with the firm’s strategic priorities and its focus on customers in the housing industry and digital solutions: Mr. Schiller has extensive experience in managing director roles at housing companies, while Mr. Nilles has many years of digitalization expertise from senior roles at renowned industrial companies.

“Matthias Hartmann and Carsten Sürig have played a key role in advancing Techem’s strategic transformation to further develop the company from a traditional metering and billing company into a digital provider of energy and building management solutions. Today, Techem is in a very strong financial position to continue this transformation and grow profitably. We thank them both for their commitment and wish them all the best in their future endeavors,” said Tom Blades, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Techem Group. “With Michael Nilles and Ulrich Schiller, we are putting the leadership of the company during the transition period in highly experienced hands,” Blades added.

Going forward, Techem intends to align its strategic direction even more closely with the needs of its customers in the housing industry. To this end, the company plans to expand its portfolio of comprehensive digital solutions in the areas of energy and decarbonization. The focus will be particularly on scaling smart metering and making greater use of Artificial Intelligence to optimize building energy management. In this context, the company acquired a majority stake in inexogy smart metering, one of Germany’s largest competitive metering point operators, in September 2025.
